Prenatal Session
These topic driven sessions extensively cover the stated pregnancy, labor or postpartum topic. These one-on-one sessions were developed by Katie O’Brien based on years of seeing women and families underprepared or underserved in these areas. Often, counseling in the office setting is time-limited and yet provider led discussions are critical for optimized health outcomes. Discussing a topic for upwards of 90 minutes in these sessions versus 5 minutes in the office setting can have a huge impact on a woman’s ability to feel comfortable and empowered in her childbirth journey. The information in these sessions far exceeds personal online research.
Please look below for usual topics (we can customize as well). To aid in time selection, please contact us BEFORE you book a session to determine the date and time and discuss topic. You may reach us by email at classes@mindfulmidwifery.net or call us at 302-922-6200. We check our voicemails and emails daily.

Confident Pregnancy
Pregnancy comes with a lot of changes! This session will prepare you to navigate your pregnancy safely and confidently. Learn about diet, exercise, mental health, sex and prenatal care milestones. Additionally, learn the reasons certain pregnancy discomforts are totally normal and how to manage them. You only get about 10 minutes per prenatal visit with your provider. Come spend 60-90 mins talking to a midwife with 15 years of clinical experience! Approach pregnancy with confidence backed by knowledge. This class is most helpful in the first and second trimesters.
Labor, Delivery & Postpartum Confidence Booster
Perhaps, you have been through childbirth before, but it has been “years” since your last delivery. Perhaps, things didn’t go as planned and you are hoping for a different experience this time. Perhaps, you are headed into this journey solo and want a class that is understanding of this. If you fit one of the above scenarios than this class is for you!
Vaginal Birth after Cesarean (VBAC)
Vaginal Birth after Cesarean (VBAC) is an option for most women that have had one prior c-section. There are many things to consider when deciding whether to have a TOLAC (trial of labor after c-section) vs a scheduled repeat c-section. It is very difficult to cover all aspects of counseling regarding this decision within the confines of an office visit. This session will cover in depth VBAC vs repeat c-section. While this class cannot replace individual counseling with your care provider, it can give you the information you need to approach this conversation with your care provider confidently.
Birth Trauma/Pregnancy Loss Support
Did you have a significant, unexpected event occur during your last pregnancy or birth? This could mean something traumatic enough to impact anyone that experienced it or something that was specific to your own personal fears such as feelings of loss of control. Regardless, if this has been impactful enough to lead to feelings of anxiety, hopelessness or difficulty moving forward into a new pregnancy or birth than this session will be invaluable. Oftentimes, women and their loved ones have many questions surrounding their experience some of which could only be answered by a clinician. Additionally, there may be many questions involving what a future pregnancy and delivery will medically look like in context of this experience. This session is not a replacement for therapy techniques but rather a support for the medical processing of the event/experience.
High Risk Pregnancy Support
Do you have chronic hypertension or another chronic medical diagnosis? Did you recently get diagnosed with GDM or pre-eclampsia? Even if you have had this in a past pregnancy, this session is for you! Come learn more about what this means for the pregnancy and beyond. This session does not take the place of medical management but, rather, serves to take the fear and confusion out of your diagnosis while preparing you for the remainder of pregnancy and delivery.
